Job Posting Title: Sports Science Project Coordinator (Research Associate 3) Position Type: Other Academic Department: LSUAM HSE - Kin - Sports Science Research (Neil Johannsen (00003874)) Work Location: H P Long Fieldhouse Mechanical Blg (729) Pay Grade: Professional Hourly Job Description: College of Human Sciences and Education School of Kinesiology Sports Science Project Coordinator Job Summary: The primary goal of the Sports Science Project Coordinator position is to facilitate and manage a funded research project by the National Football League with a minor role to provide support to the LSU Athletics Department staff and coaches by coordinating data collection and management efforts. This position demands highly developed analytic skills and the ability to solve complex problems facing the Athletics community. The candidate will be required to collect and integrate data from a variety of sources, manage large datasets, supervise research teams, and report findings. The Sports Science Project Coordinator must have the ability to make evaluation-related decisions and judgments. Candidates are expected to have strong writing skills and the ability to assemble any groups necessary for the task of proposing, implementing, and reporting on project evaluations. This position requires a candidate to possess strong organizational skills and work seamlessly within a group setting. In addition, the candidate will also need to work independently in order to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. The Sports Science Project Coordinator will work alongside athletes, colleagues, and other stakeholders and partners on proposed and current projects. The Sports Science Project Coordinator is expected to attend trainings and professional and academic conferences, and make public and private presentations. This position will need to supervise other staff members and students, and delegate responsibilities when appropriate. Job Responsibilities: 75% --Primary Project Coordinator for a multi-center trial examining the relationship between head impacts and concussion risk funded by a grant from the NFL (IMP study).
  • Recruitment and retention of LSU Football Athletes
  • Coordination of the assessments as per the Scope of Work (SOW) for the IMP study
  • Collect data and maintain electronic and physical records according to the SOW
  • Assure the quality of the data collected and entered into the electronic database by study personnel
  • Oversee the daily operations of the study, coordinate the study data collection and entry by other study staff, including undergraduate and graduate students, as well as athletics staff, maintain records of appropriate research training and credentials for study personnel (ex. CITI training)
  • Report to the Principal Investigator, Co-Investigator, and IMP study team on the progress of the study, as well as any potential or ongoing study problems
  • Build a rapport with LSU Athletics personnel including coaches, strength and conditioning personnel, performance nutrition, and athletic trainers
  • Maintain study documents including the SOW, consent, protocol, etc.
  • Present progress reports to the LSU athletics coaches and staff
  • Willing to invest time to publish or present IMP study results if applicable
20%-- Coordinate data collection and analysis, prepare reports for coaches and staff, and facilitate data management and access to additional research and non-research entities.
  • Collaborate and communicate with our Performance Nutrition staff, Athletic Training Staff, Manager of Applied Sports Science, Director of Athletic Development, and Director of Performance Innovation in data collection using performance metrics and other pertinent medical data within the athlete management system (Smartabase)
  • Attend assigned football practices and daily operations, providing support in the assessment and analysis of data related to hydration, anthropometric, biometric screening, and sports performance.
  • Assist with the subsequent publication of research projects, including data analysis, paper writing, and submission to peer-reviewed journals
  • Partnering with outside researchers as able to facilitate Louisiana State University Athletics participation in relevant research areas, including sports nutrition, sports science, and sports medicine
  • Mentor undergraduate student volunteers' and graduate assistant(s) experience in research.
  • Attend health and performance staff meetings and communicate consistently with performance team members regarding the care of athletes
5%-- Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree Degree Substitute: Bachelor's and 2 years of related experience Preferred Qualifications: • Master’s Degree, with published thesis, in Kinesiology or Sports Science, or equivalent, with a history of successful research implementation/coordination. • Experience in laboratory procedures, testing, and research activities, especially related to sports science research.• Active, or willing to obtain (within the first 2 weeks of employment) and maintain, Citi Training for research compliance. • Extensive experience working with athletics’ teams, coaches, and staff.
