Seven Seas Roasting Company in San Diego, CA is looking for an experienced coffee roaster to join our strong team. We are located on 1947 Fern Street Unit 4. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter, ambitious, reliable, and has a calm, patient, methodical problem-solving approach. The Coffee Roaster will work closely with our Green Coffee Buyer, Production Staff, and Coffee Educators to support our wholesale operations.

As Coffee Roaster, your job duties will entail:

• Fulfilling our roasting needs on Diedrich 5 kilo, and working with our Green Coffee Buyer to establish roast profiles for new coffees for our cafes and retail offerings
• Tracking and maintaining inventory levels of both green and roasted coffee as well as utilizing store staff to accomplish all roasting needs
• Managing the Roasting Schedule and work directly with the Green Coffee buyer to ensure the Roasting Schedule is adhered to and updated with any changes
• Liaison with our Coffee Educators to help educate and train our staff, including developing new education classes
• Meet with wholesale accounts to ensure quality and fulfillment of needs
• Be an active participant within the coffee community
• Comfortable on camera, and liaison with our marketing team to ensure proper and complete information for all offerings
• Production cupping and espresso quality control
• Cupping with our Green Coffee Buyer for purchasing decisions
• Maintaining Daily Roast, Quality Control, and Cupping reports
• Regular roaster maintenance and cleaning
• Packaging Roasted Coffee for retail and wholesale

This job requires regular heavy lifting on a regular basis in a tight work environment. You must be able to multi-task and be a quick thinker. No job is too big or too small for this position, regular cleaning and maintenance is to be expected.

The Coffee Roaster is expected to serve as a resource for all coffee questions from customers, serving as an in-house expert. They exemplify customer service even when not directly involved in retail operations. Contributes to positive team environment by recognizing alarms or changes in processes or customer service issues and has strong communication skills. Demonstrates integrity, honesty, and knowledge that promote the culture, values and mission of Seven Seas Roasting Co. Maintains and models a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events.

This is currently a part-time position with flexible hours. Compensation package is based on experience.

To succeed in the Head Coffee Roaster position you will need to have at least two years roasting experience.
