Phlebotomist needed for busy multi-specialty practice in Myrtle Beach. Must have excellent customer service and computer skills. Excellent pay and benefits, including medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, life insurance, and 401k. Hours are Monday - Thursdays 745am - 515pm and Fridays 8am-12pm. Travel between is required. Half days on Fridays and no weekends!!!
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Responsible for performing venipuncture, specimen collection, Covid Collection and drug collection. Phlebotomists are expected to collect specimens, perform specimen processing, perform POC Wavered Testing and perform order entry and POC reporting into various Lab Information Systems and EMR without error. Greets and check in patients, is able to enter, update, confirm and print patient information using the Athena EMR and Merge LIS. Phlebotomists are expected to perform light office duties, including answering the telephone, faxing, filing obtaining lab orders, scheduling and confirming patient appointments in the EMR, LIS, POC billing and Lab Billing review. Phlebotomists are expected to be able to communicate clearly and efficiently with staff and patients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood products.
- Employee will always use PPEs when collecting and handling laboratory specimens.
- Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients. Collects and processes urine, drug screens and other types of specimens for laboratory testing.
- Employee will collect Covid Nasopharyngeal properly using required PPE following all CDC Guidelines.
- Positively identifies patient identification using multiple identifiers.
- Verifies patient identification on all orders at time of collection.
- Employee is expected to clearly write the patients name and properly affix the appropriate laboratory specimen label to the specimen, initial and date the specimen label in the patient’s presence at time of collection.
- Employee is expected to enter patient data and laboratory requests into various laboratories information systems including reference lab portals.
- Attaches all Diagnosis codes to requested testing following Provider direction and best practices guidelines.
- Instructs patients regarding specimen collection procedures including fasting and or dietary instructions.
- Cleans work area including waste removal, following safety, cleanliness and infection control procedures
- Employee will transport and seal all Bio-Hazardous waste containers following OSHA and infection control guidelines.
- Employee is expected to inventory supplies, replenish working areas, and communicate resupply needs to supervisor.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Employee packages specimens for transport, following specimen requirements i.e. frozen, refrigerated or room temperature.
- Employee is expected to perform Point of Care Testing, perform Quality Controls and documents all maintenance procedures on POC Logs.
- Maintains, eyewash, cleaning, restocking, temperature and specimen manifest logs.
- Employee is expected to work the Athena Workflow dashboard when applicable to the position location.
- Greets and checks in patient in a timely manner.
- Employee will enter patient data into Athena practice management system, check eligibility, update or confirm previous data and scan patient insurance card into patient account. Assuring information on the billing slip is accurate.
- Employee is able follow provider’s orders accurately without error.
- Employee is able to review completed encounters checking for errors or omissions without error.
- Employee will obtain laboratory orders in the EMR. Employee is able to send patient cases requesting lab order information for future Laboratory appointments.
- Employee will be expected to work the Athena Clinical Laboratory Staff Inbox. Performing add on requests, answering staff questions, forwarding reports and documents as needed.
- Employee may be required to assist in document confirmation and retrieval for QA studies.
- Employee is responsible to obtain and verify completion of automated or manual ABN’s when necessary.
- Employee is expected to QC, perform and report POC Wavered testing without error.
- Employee is expected to enter POC Billing and Review Lab Billing without error.
- Employee may be asked to work the Athena Workflow dash board, working the Hold and Missing Slip Buckets.
- Employee is expected to complete, review, confirm and send out reports indicated by the Fax Log when needed.
- Employee is expected to notify supervisor of any information download problems or computer issues as soon as possible.
- Assist co-workers as needed.
- Employee is expected to attend all mandatory training and meetings.
- Employee is expected to perform additional tasks as assigned.
- The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to the position.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. Applicant is expected to have graduated from an accredited Phlebotomy program.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum one-year work experience, preferably in healthcare. Phlebotomy experience is expected.
REQUIREMENTS: Phlebotomist must have or are eligible to sit for a National Phlebotomy Certification. All Phlebotomists who do not have a Certification and are eligible to sit for a National Phlebotomy Certification are expected to obtain the Certification within 90 days of employment.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of phlebotomy techniques.
- Knowledge of clinic protocols and policies.
- Knowledge of proper specimen processing techniques.
- Knowledge of Medical necessity and obtaining ABNs.
- Knowledge and promotion of OSHA and Laboratory safety policies
- Knowledge of HIPAA policies.
- Knowledge of Athena EMR.
- Knowledge of various Laboratory Information Systems.
- Knowledge of POC Wavered testing
- Knowledge in working the Athena Workflow Dashboard
- Knowledge of OSHA and CDC PPE safety procedures.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Employee must be able to walk to various settings and to be able to bend and reach.
- Employee must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of supplies and equipment and help with patient transport and transfer.
- The employee will experience occasional stressful situations and must have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks to maximize efficiency while performing excellent customer service.
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Moves among various outpatient settings. Exposure to communicable diseases, sharp instruments, bodily fluids, cleaning chemicals.
