Summary You will serve as an INSULATOR in the Lagging/Pipe cover Shop 57A, Hull Division (TRF-310), Repair Department (TRF-300), TRIDENT Refit Facility (TRIFEFFAC), Kings Bay, Georgia TRIFFAC of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY. Responsibilities You will be responsible for measuring the dimensions of pipes, ducts, and other objects and cut, form, and install insulating materials on items with flat, square, or cylindrical surfaces and regular curves. You will be responsible for filling cracks and smoothing rough spots with cement and trowel and applying fiberglass cloths or other fabrics to cover the insulation, using cement, needle and twine or copper wire to complete the installation. You will be responsible for using tools such as electric knife cutters, fittings, and flanges; sewing and stapling machines for making portable bags and canvas covers for cold surfaces; saws, shears, knives, needles and sailmaker's palms. You will be responsible for repairing damaged or inadequate insulation materials. You will be responsible for interpreting and following blueprints, plans, sketches, and other specifications related to the trade. You will be responsible for fabricating, removing, and installing insulating materials to the surface of pipes, ducts valves, fittings, flanges, boilers, tanks, turbines, distilling plants, and other similar components. You will be responsible for planning and laying out the insulation work, fabrication and installation insulation materials to a variety of irregular shaped or unique items and removing insulation, including asbestos from submarines and surface craft. Experience serving as an insulator responsible for assisting the journeyman fabricate, remove and install insulating materials to the surfaces of pipes, ducts, valves, fittings, flanges, boilers, tanks, turbines, etc. Experience preparing patterns, templates and sketches of items to be covered and assisting the journeyman to perform a variety of linear, angular, cubic and circular measurements to determine the amounts of insulation required. Experience computing terminal conductivity and sound absorbency to determine the proper type of installation required. Experience demonstrating the ability to measure the dimensions of pipes, ducts, and other objects and cuts, forms and installs insulation materials on items with flat, square, or cylindrical surfaces and regular curves. Experience covering objects with insulation materials to reduce heat loss or absorption, to prevent moisture condensation or to molded sound on ships. Experience fabricating molders sections of insulation for special parts and complicated configurations by cutting and fitting various segments of insulation. Experience demonstrating good hand and eye coordination to perform cutting, cementing, lacing, sewing, and trowel application and skilled in the use of trade tools such as electric knife cutter, sewing machines, and shears. Experience removing insulation (including asbestos) from ships and craft while following all safety precautions and instructions. Experience reading and interpreting instructions, specifications, blue-prints, etc. to perform job duties and demonstrated knowledge of arithmetic to perform surface measurements with such devices as rulers and calipers.
