JOB DESCRIPTION

Fox News Media is seeking a hardworking Freelance Camera Operator to join the team in NY. The Freelance Camera Operator will work with a variety of cameras including robotic, pedestal, jib, and handheld. Additionally, you will be involved in building facilities for programs, segments, and events in the studio, outside on Fox Square, and possibly in remote locations.  The Freelance Camera Operator will also help with set changes, movement of set pieces, and gear/equipment. You must be a team player who is capable of operating in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fluid production environment.

Camera Operators work in both studio environments and the outdoors in inclement weather conditions. Occasional extended shifts and travel to remote locations may be requested. A successful applicant is capable of standing for extended periods while operating the camera. Ability to lift fifty pounds is required.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Confer with producers, directors, sound and lighting technicians, and other crew members to discuss assignments and determine proper sequences, desired effects, camera movements, and lighting requirements

  • Set up television production facilities for live and recorded programs

  • Test, clean, and maintain broadcast equipment

  • Follow a shot list while choosing the angles and distances

  • Show dialogue and match the shots to the action

  • Come up with solutions in pre-production and on the fly during a show

  • Move, lift, push, and position equipment, cables, and material of various shapes, sizes, and weights including maneuvering tripods, pedestals, and set pieces

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • A Bachelor’s degree in communications, radio/TV/film, production, or related field of study is preferred, or equivalent experience

  • 2-3+ years of experience working in a live television or media production environment with proficiency in pedestal and robotic camera systems

  • 1+ year of experience operating pedestal, robotic, jib, and handheld cameras

  • Working knowledge of live studio operations, including setup and breakdown of set pieces, camera equipment, and video patching

  • Operational knowledge of camera and lens systems

  • Ability to zoom, pan, tilt, focus, ped, dolly, and track shots while maintaining focus and framing

  • Understanding of the needs of the viewer and ability to imagine the visual flow of the broadcast

  • Knowledgeable and versatile in photographic equipment, as well as lighting, composition, and movement

  • In-depth knowledge of stationery and portable video cameras

  • Experience working in a team-oriented environment 

  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Ability to adjust to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including studio and production personnel, engineering, on-air talent, other departments, and management

  • Ability to present technical ideas and concepts in a user-friendly language

  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

  • Flexibility to work a variety of non-traditional shifts including early mornings, holidays, and weekends
