Job Description Overview:
Associate Color position is responsible for all aspects of brands color process. This includes development of the color palette, distribution of color standards, requesting development colors approving color submits and overall color consistency within the brand. Additional responsibilities include tracking, follow up and metrics for the color process. This role requires strong collaboration skills. A fundamental requirement is to be able to build trust with teams and key partners. He/She will be known as a trusted, collaborative and results-oriented partner to the Private Brands Overseas, Design and Product teams. The ideal candidate needs to be comfortable and effective leading through complex situations and have the ability to influence business partners. Candidates must be comfortable with evaluating situations and ensuring these align with company strategy.
Essential Functions:
•Assist in developing and coaching Color Assistants
•Asserts own ideas and persuades others in a clear, confident, and composed manner. Tailors message for the audience and is able to gain support and commitment from others.
•Understands and maintains the brand concept and identity in all approval decisions. (NY team only)
•Research and recommend color trends and create color presentations (NY team only)
•Collaborate with design team in developing seasonal color palette. (NY team only)
•Facilitate digital and visual color searches within the color library and supplier libraries (NY team only)
•Administers the communication of color palettes through entry into Macys color system (NY team only)
•Distributes color standards and/or color cards to all Macys internal partners.
•Maintains history and analysis on previous palettes
•Proactively resolves concerns or issues on color matches inherent in fabric selections partners with color manager, design, and product development team.
•Provides extensive communication with brand team, overseas offices, suppliers, and mills on correction and performance issues related to color or production technique. (NY team only)
•Partners with OS Colorist on visual and instrumental color approval decisions for lab dips, trims, and bulk. (NY team only)
•Consult with Color Service Providers and OS Teams to provide technical expertise on challenging color/fabrications.
•Understanding of visual and instrumental color evaluation with accurate and consistent technique: ability to use spectrophotometer, light boxes, and other color tools
•Ability to differentiate color and accurately and consistently describe color differences
•Executes print and pattern color evaluation (NY team only)
•Accountable for implementing the color process and executing against the End to End calendar.
•Adheres to turn time requirements to achieve on time delivery.
•Assist with color library updates (NY team only)
•Partners with Digital Merchants in communicating and managing Hex values (NY team only)
•Attends key brand meetings and supports company initiatives. (NY team only)
•Responsible for alignment audits on decisions owned by the supply chain.
•Knowledge of dyes and dyeing techniques for varied fiber contents; knowledge of textile structures and their influence on color appearance; knowledge of industry standards
•Highly organized, ability to prioritize (sense of urgency) and attention to detail require
Qualifications:
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in a related field. Background in technical color and color/ fabric knowledge
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Personable, team and service oriented - ability to build relationships with brand teams
Required Skill: Superior score on 100 Hue Test, Experience with visual and instrumental color evaluation process with accurate and consistent technique, ability to use spectrophotometer, light box
Technical Skills: Proficient in Photoshop, illustrator, InDesign and Excel. Understanding fabric properties and construction (knit, woven, denim, sweaters) and understanding how these properties effect finished garments. Proficiency in PLM, a plus.
Reasoning Ability. Ability to multitask and work cross functionally with multiple business partners. Adept problem solver who is able to make sound decisions using equal parts intuition and analytics
Work Hours: Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and store/company needs.
