Legacy Community Health is hiring immediately for Maternal and Child Health Program Specialists through our partnership with the AmeriCorps Program. AmeriCorps is a Federal Program that connects Americans with Community Services in Health, Public Safety, etc.

The session begins September 3, 2024. Must commit to completing the 1700-hour requirement by August 31, 2025. The bi-weekly (every two weeks) stipend is $700, less applicable taxes.

About the Position
The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Program Specialist supports Legacy Public Health in providing prenatal and postpartum education and navigation as well as child injury prevention services. Their work will help address key public health issues such as pre-term birth, low birth weight, and maternal and infant morbidity. This is an ideal position for a person interested in pursuing obstetrics/gynecology or maternal and child health promotion as a future profession.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as one of Legacy’s Peripartum-Pediatric Navigator who supports high-risk pregnant patients to make and keep prenatal and post-partum care appointments.
  • Support Legacy’s prenatal education program by completing patient scheduling, baby care item distribution, and monthly reporting. Assist with teaching classes and organizing special events such as Baby Shower Parades.
  • Support Legacy’s car seat safety program by completing patient scheduling, car seat inventory, distribution, and monthly reporting. Assist with teaching child passenger safety classes and special events.
  • Identify and/or develop handouts, presentations, resources, models, and other teaching tools and materials to effectively convey prenatal, parenting, and child injury prevention information.
  • As time and training allow, learn and support other prenatal and parenting curricula at Legacy such as breastfeeding, family planning, and safe sleep.
  • Connects patients to eligibility services and other primary and preventative health care services at Legacy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
In addition to the activities above, all Legacy Community Health Corps Members will:
  • Represent Legacy’s AmeriCorps Program by wearing the AmeriCorps logo daily
  • In the event of a local, state, or federal disaster declaration, AmeriCorps members may be asked on a volunteer basis or be required by OneStar to activate to assist in disaster response and recovery activities within their communities. This may involve virtual service opportunities or in-person service opportunities. This may include service opportunities outside of the member’s standard service hours or in place of their standard service duties. In the event of a large-scale, high needs local, state, or federal disaster, AmeriCorps members may voluntarily or be required by OneStar to deploy to an area outside of their service area to assist in disaster response and recovery activities.
Nonessential Functions: Legacy Community Health Corps Members may have opportunities to engage in the following activities:
  • Work with community partners to identify service opportunities in alignment with the program design.
  • Members may be asked to perform other position-related instructions within the scope of their normal service activities as requested by their site supervisor and/or AmeriCorps program staff in alignment with the grant and not unallowable or prohibited activities and subject to reasonable accommodation.
  • Provide translation and interpretation services as appropriate.

Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • No previous experience is required.
  • Bilingual / Spanish fluency is preferred.
  • U.S. Citizen or a Permanent Resident
